The Alternatieve Elfstedentocht Weissensee (Alternative Eleven City Races Weissensee) is a ice skating tour over 200 kilometers. It is an alternative for the original Eleven City Race (Elfstedentocht) in the Dutch province of Friesland, that goes back many centuries.
As the Dutch waters don’t freeze over so easily, the Dutch started looking for alternatives in other countries. They found that in different countries, since 1989 we organize the race on the Weissensee in Austria.
In 2018, there will be four Alternative Eleven City tours of 200 kilometers that you can participate in:
- Tuesday, January 23
- Friday, January 26
- Tuesday, January 30
- Friday, February 2
We also have a 100 kilometer tour on each Tuesday an Friday. This tour is especially for the less experienced ice skaters, who want to finish a tour and get a medal after that (in the 200k, you only get a medal if you complete 200k).
You can enter one or more tours by signing up online. The costs for participating are 75 euro per tour, and you also have to become a member of the Alternatieve Elfstedentocht Weissensee (AEW), which costs 26,50 euro per year. You can also sign up at the Weissensee from January 21, at the office of the organization (costs are 90 euro per tour at that moment). The office is located near the ice, near start and finish.
